Trivia Night Event Guide
A trivia night is a fun way to prepare your group members for your next tabling event on campus, or to just test your knowledge! It can also be a great recruitment event! Either way, this event will leave your group members with information they need to feel confident in having conversations about abortion. Use this event guide to plan your next Trivia Night.
Step 1
Set up the Details and Advertise.
- Set a date for your event. This can take the place of a group meeting or be its own event.
- Take the necessary steps to reserve a room at your school. You'll need to reserve the room for at least two hours in order to set up, host the event, and clean up.
- If you're using this event to recruit more members, be sure to advertise! Always include the date, time, and location and advertise at least one week in advance.
- Use the recruitment flyer linked on the sidebar to spread awareness about your event! Be sure to post the flyers in high-traffic places throughout your campus such as the student union, cafeteria, etc.
- Create a Facebook event for the Trivia Night.
- Here are some other ideas to increase attendance at your event:
- Provide and advertise food. This will draw more people to the Trivia Night.
- Personally invite your friends and classmates to attend and have your group members do the same. A personalized message goes a long way!
- When advertising online, use hashtags popular at your school and tag other student organizations.
- Consider inviting your Regional Coordinator to give a training before the trivia event to encourage your members to study up and get excited! A couple of suggestions for some good trainings to request are included on the sidebar.
Step 2
Prepare for Your Meeting.
- Choose which trivia game(s) you will use. Here are some suggestions!
- You can also create your own trivia game using Kahoot!, PowerPoint, etc., to showcase your questions and answers. Then, design a point system to make the trivia event a competition. Below are some helpful sources you can use to create your questions.
- Discuss with group officers and your advisor what kinds of prizes your group can realistically present to the winner(s) of the trivia event. Assign a group leader to obtain the prizes at least a week before the event.
Step 3
Gather Your Materials.
- A projector and necessary wires (computers often require an HDMI cord)
- Chairs and tables
- Food (if you plan on providing it)
- A sign-up sheet so new attendees can join your group.
- Music
- A notebook/paper to keep score
- Prizes
- Phone or camera to take pictures and video
Step 4
It's Game Time!
- Arrive early to do the following:
- Test the technology.
- Arrange seating to face the screen.
- Set up food and music.
- Place your group sign-up sheet and information about your group on a table.
- Introduce yourself and your officers.
- Have everyone introduce themselves and play a quick icebreaker.
- Divide everyone into teams of threes or fours. Have each group pick a team name.
- Explain the rules, prizes, and point system for winning the game.
- Award first and second place teams.
- Share fun photos and videos of your event on your group's social media!
