Interest Meeting Event Guide
Interest meetings are perfect for getting new members to join your group. You want them to be both fun and educational so people get a great impression of what it would be like to be a member of your group! Use this event guide to plan your interest meeting!
Step 1
Gather Your Materials
- Recruitment Flyer
- Clipboard
- Pens
- Sign-up sheet (either use the one in our Complete Resource Library linked HERE, or create your own)
- Food/snacks/drinks
- Plates/napkins/utensils
- Computer/projector for showing videos and/or playing games
Step 2
Advertise for Your Meeting.
- Use the recruitment flyer attached to advertise for your interest meeting!
- Be sure to post them in high-traffic places throughout your campus such as the student union, cafeteria, etc.
- Have your current members invite people they know that may be interested.
- Post on social media about your interest meeting!
- You could even host a recruitment table at your school's club fair, homecoming week, or any other school-wide event. This would help you to gain contact with potential new members to invite to your interest meeting!
Step 3
Plan the Activities for Your Meeting.
- Start with a light-hearted ice breaker activity such as everyone sharing a fun fact or having a Rock Paper Scissors tournament.
- Share why this club is so important. Consider using some of these facts and resources.
- Read this Why Should You Care? blog.
- General Abortion Facts: General Abortion Facts - Students For Life of America
- Abortion hurts women and families.
- Show a short video that’s entertaining, but also educational. Here are some suggestions!
- Have some time for discussion. Here are some potential conversation starters.
- What do you already know about being pro-life?
- What would you like to learn about?
- What service projects would you like to do?
- Play a game! You can use one of the following online games or play your own game.
Step 4
Prepare for Your Meeting.
- Make sure you have all your materials.
- Create an agenda for your meeting to help you stay on time.
- You may want to create your own sign-in sheets to pass out and gather more information from the students that come such as:
- What are some of your talents?
- How can you use your talents to help the group?
- What would you like to learn about?
- What motivated you to come to the meeting today?
- Are you interested in a leadership role? If yes, which one?
Step 5
Host the Meeting!
- Set up a clipboard with the sign-up sheet and pens at the front of the room. If you've made your own sign-up sheets with additional questions, have those available for them to grab as they come in.
- If you are using any audio or video, check to make sure everything is set up and working.
- Set up the food.
- Welcome everyone and give an introduction to your mission and leaders.
- Follow your agenda so you can stay on time.
- At the end of the meeting, share any upcoming meetings and events.
- End on time but encourage attendees to stick around to hang out informally. For example, in the student union, or at a local restaurant or coffee shop.
